Feral Felines screens potential adopters to ensure that cats and kittens are going to good homes. As many of the animals have already experienced appalling conditions, our pledge is to improve the quality of their lives. We reserve the right to refuse any applicant who, in our opinion, cannot provide an appropriate home for one of our animals.

Procedures and General Adoption Criteria:

  • Potential adopters must be at least 18 years of age, have no documented history of neglect/abuse of animals, and must provide their current home address. No animal will be permitted to go to a residence where pets are not permitted. The Landlord’s permission must be obtained before the adoption can be completed.
  • All adult members of the household must be informed about and consent to the adoption of a kitten or cat from FFRR.
  • All male and female cats will be spayed or neutered before leaving FFRR. If the kitten is too young to be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, the procedure will be done (at no extra cost to the owner) once the kitten reaches 6 months of age.
  • FFRR does not permit its animals to be given as gifts. Instead, it is suggested that people purchase gift certificates so that the potential adopters can choose their own kitten or cat.
  • FFRR prefers that its cats, for their general health and safety, be kept indoors and should not be permitted outdoors except when they can be safely supervised.
  • Adopted cats will not be subjected to unnecessary cosmetic surgery, including de-clawing. We do not condone this procedure as it involves the amputation of part of each toe and, in most cases, is not necessary.
  • Responsible pet ownership includes proper adult supervision of children when they are with animals. FFRR may discourage or refuse the adoption of certain kittens or cats to families with young children.
  • FFRR does not provide refunds for adopted animals that are returned to it. If we agree to a trial period for a kitten or cat, we will give the adopter a two-week grace period during which the adoption fee will be refunded. These trials will only be granted to determine whether or not the animal is a good “fit” for a family (for example, when there are other pets in the home) and the terms will be agreed upon before the animal is placed.
  • Final approval of an adoption is at the sole discretion of FFRR.
